Alvin Davis

Comes Back As A Pitcher

Former Seattle Mariner Alvin Davis was honored as the first inductee into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 14, 1997. For eight years, we knew him as the quiet first baseman with the loud bat, but on this particular day Davis strode to the mound in the Kingdome to throw out the first pitch before the Mariners and Dodgers game.

Davis, 36, played nine seasons in the Major Leagues and finished his career with the California Angels in 1991. He came up through the Mariners' farm system and became the first Mariner to win a major post-season award when he captured the 1984 American League Rookie of the Year honors with a .284 average, 27 home runs and 116 RBI. He was also named to the 1984 American League All-Star Team.
