Alvin Davis

THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE

Was it Alvin Davis' first major league home run that would be rated the best day of his life? How about when he smothered that hot ground ball down the first base line off the bat of Lloyd Moseby to help preserve Randy Johnson's historic no-hitter? Or maybe it was the grand slam he hit with both Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. on base? (The other Mariner on base was Harold Reynolds, incidentally) Was it any of these? Well, let's ask Alvin.

"The biggest day of my life was when I was 12 years old," reflects Davis. "It was through the ministry of my church, and I realized I needed God the Creator, and I gave my life to Jesus Christ, His Son. That personal decision is the most important one anybody will make in his or her life."

Alvin is quick to add the day he and his wife Kim were married in 1983. "Then, when my three kids were born," said Davis. "After that, my first day in the majors, and then my last day in the majors. That was when I was with the California Angels. We were visiting the Dome and the Mariners honored me. I appreciated that so much. The fans were so gracious. I'll never forget it."
