Alvin Davis Is Still A Mariner

"Toughest Pitchers I Faced."

PAO.ORG asked Alvin Davis who were the toughest pitchers he came up against in his eight years in the Major Leagues. Without a beat, Alvin rattled off some pretty good talent. "First off, Nolan Ryan for all the obvious reasons. High heat and a curve ball that was just as devastating," said Davis. "Roger Clemens was tough to hit. He always had pinpoint control besides the hard-stuff. But, I'd say the pitcher that really gave me fits was Frank Viola. He was a left-hander and one tough competitor. He wasn't afraid to throw all of his pitches and he was the kind of guy who continually made adjustments. You never saw the same stuff from Frank from one at-bat to another." Ahhh, Sweet Music Frank Viola against the Sweet Swing of Alvin Davis. Hardball that was music to any fan's ears.
