Alvin Davis Alvin Davis Is Still A Mariner
It's almost a given in every ballplayer's life. Sooner or later, you get released. For Alvin Davis, it came in 1992 while donning a California Angels uniform. "It was Fathers Day in Anaheim," recalls Alvin. "My good friend Dan O'Brien, who had been with the Mariners, came up to me to break the news. There was an opportunity for me to play in Japan. It was a bittersweet night. I knew it was probably the last day I'd ever play in the majors." But in his heart, Davis says he's still a Seattle Mariner. "I never wanted to leave that team," admits Davis. "Seattle was my first team and I'd come up through their farm system. The guys I'd met and played with like Harry Reynolds, Dave Valle, Mike Moore, Spike Owen, Mike Kingery and others. Heroes like Dave Dravecky, Brett Butler and the guy who encouraged me the most, Andre Thornton. It was tough to leave. And, I'm still a Mariner in my heart." |
