Alvin Davis
PAO.ORG Extends Its Thanks
We wish to thank Alvin Davis for exemplifying for all of us – adults and kids alike, baseball fans and casual observers -- the kind of career and lifestyle that makes us all a little better people. Alvin, we thank you for the simple, quiet way you played the game. You always went about your work, meticulously. And it was during those turbulent Mariner years, when we began to recognize a calm inside the Kingdome. We could still look down to first base and find Number 21 standing there, tall and slender, eyes staring down at the batter, pounding your right hand into the webbing of your glove, as if to say, "Ok, show me what you got. Hit it here." You showed us a grace we so much want to see in professional sports. The dignity you carried between the lines. And off the field, you shared your heart with a community seeking an identity. During triumphs and failures, dingers and double play balls, we began to see it really isn't all about winning or losing. For the fans who never met you, or got your autograph or shook your hand, we know we speak for them when we say, somehow we all know you. You are a brother and a friend. A man who encourages us all to go for the best. And to pay honor to the God who gives us His best. Thank you for the memories. We'll always remember you and your sweet, sweet swing. |
