Have you ever been so concerned about yourself that you forgot about the other people around you?

For years this was the story of my life. I have to admit, I was pretty selfish. I thought my way was right for me and that people who wanted to change their lives were weak.

Today, I realize there's more to life than living just for myself. By the time you finish reading what it was that changed my life, I think your life may be changed, too.

Back in college I knew what my priorities were. I was pretty much interested in myself, going out with the guys, drinking beer, and chasing girls. Even though I did these things, I knew deep down in my heart, there was something more.

I thought back to a decision I had made a few years earlier to follow the God of the Bible. I said I wanted to be a Christian, but I never did anything to deepen my relationship with God. I didn't get together with Christian friends.

My #1 priority was still football, it wasn't God. Things stayed that way for years as I went on to play in the pros.

After eight seasons I thought things were great...

I had played in three Pro Bowls, I was making a good salary, I was driving a nice car. Everything was good. Except for one detail: I had decided to get married. That's when I realized that living in the fast lane would not make a good marriage.

One day, Amy and I went to a Bible study with some of the Green Bay players and their wives, and something began to eat me inside. I realized I had the discipline to play football, but I didn't have the discipline to follow Jesus Christ after I had said yes to Him.

I knew there was only one wise thing I could do. I decided to recommit my life to Christ. Shortly after my decision, I got cut by Green Bay. Here I was All-Pro one day, then out of a job the next.

I learned that a lot of things in life, like football, don't last forever. It's then I realized Jesus Christ is behind me all the time. He is forever. When I wasn't walking with Him, He was still walking with me.

I learned something else too...

That was that God had a plan for my life. Even though I had gotten cut, I still felt peaceful inside. Luckily, the Kansas City Chiefs picked me up the very next season, and I was able to continue my career.

Becoming a Christian isn't an overnight experience. Sometimes it's hard. I'll be honest, I don't always pray, and there are times when I can't understand the Bible. But even though I go up and down with my feelings, I know Jesus Christ is always there.
