Bert Emmanuel
Jealousy, frustration, stress, bitterness, a hot temper, and a pursuit of selfish desires described me before I entered into a personal relationship with Christ. Winning had meant everything to me, even to the point of thinking I was a failure if I lost. I was playing for approval from coaches, peers, or my dad. I didn't think much of my heavenly Father--the one who gave me the talent to glorify Him.
Only after I gave my life to Christ while in college did I begin to understand God's purpose for me. Now I know that God desires me to give Him honor and praise for my playing ability. He wants me to walk with Him daily and to understand that through His grace (not my performance) He promises eternal life.
The Bible says, "We should seek first the kingdom of God and He will give us the desires of our heart." (Matt. 6:33) In doing this, we receive life's ultimate prize--the reward of spending eternity with Him.
