Professional football is all about performance. If we're doing well, th press sings our praises. If not, they're saying we're the worst team in the NFL. Paying too much attention to this sort of thing can really throw off your game. It can also affect how you feel about yourself.
Before I became a Christian, this sort of criticism really got to me. I was pretty insecure; I was living aimlessly and had no identity. I let circumstances and what others said about me dictate how I felt about myself. This all changed though when Christ entered my life and I began following and obeying the word of God. Suddenly, everything didn't rest on whether or not I made a mistake. I didn't feel condemned for failing to live up to certain type of image. I began to feel more freedom to be myself. Rather than living to please others, I realized the only approval that really maters is from my Heavenly Father, my Creator.
Life is so much more fulfilling now that I know I have God's approval. I still make mistakes, but I feel peace knowing that God allows me to grow and mature at my own pace - His pace. If you're struggling with condemnation or a performance mentality, you can bring an end to it right now. Believe it or not, you already have God's approval. All you have to do is accept it, and God will allow you to grow and mature at your own pace as well.
