Rich Griffith

There's no question that I consider myself fortunate and blessed to be playing in the National Football League. Through hard work, dedication and perseverance, I have realized a dream that comes true for very few athletes.

Growing up in Tucson, Arizona I loved sports and put all of my time and effort into football, basketball and track. As time went on I found my talents, as well as body size were more suitable for football and began to set goals to receive a college scholarship. After battling through a (0-10) season my senior year in high school, God blessed me with a full scholarship to the University of Arizona and set before me a promising career in football as a tight end and long snapper.

Each day I count my blessings and thank God for giving me the opportunity to earn a living as a pro football player. I am also grateful that Jesus Christ has been with me every step of the way - through the great times as well as through the setbacks. He has helped me realize that I can't do things on my own but I can fully trust Him with every aspect of my life. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Trusting Jesus Christ has given my family and me hope for the future, no matter what happens in this world. The Lord has given our lives meaning and purpose, and God has definitely shown us He has a plan for each of our lives. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Not only have we experienced God's peace, joy and strength even through tough times, but we also have the assurance of eternal life in heaven. The only thing that matters when we die is whether or not we've put our trust in Jesus Christ. Money, wealth, fame, good deeds won't get us into heaven. The Bible says that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Jesus Christ is our only hope. He is the answer, and I challenge you to make the decision to follow Him today.

God has given athletes an incredible platform. A platform not only to be positive role models but a responsibility to share Christ. My life verse is Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord and not for men." It doesn't stop with athletes. God has given each of us a gift or talent to use to the best of our ability to glorify God. So many have gone the world's way looking for answers, fulfillment and happiness. Jesus Christ is the answer, the only one who will fill that void in your life and the source of true happiness.
