I grew up in church and knew the story of Jesus, but I never fully comprehended how God differed from Allah, Buddha or any other religious leader.

During my sophomore year, my brother Chris invited me to a Christian conference in Dallas. Chris had given his life to Christ a couple years earlier. He was by no means an angel (by his own admission) but knew that I should be at the conference with him. At first I told him 'no' and justified my decision by giving him a hundred excuses. The biggest excuse was my lack of finances. Then my mom said she would pay for the trip and suddenly I was on my way.

Attending that conference was the single most important thing that ever happened to me. While I was there I learned what it meant to have a personal relationship with the one and only savior, Jesus Christ; and that God had a plan for my life, a destiny for me. Even though I felt insignificant in my own eyes, I realized that I was very significant in God's eyes.

John 3:16 sums up the whole thing: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." I know that Jesus died for me and now I have a true purpose for living.
