One of the biggest challenges about playing in the NFL is remaining humble. With so many people idolizing the players, the game, and all of the fame, status, and money that go along with it, it's practically impossible not to fall into that trap. That's why I constantly ask God to keep me humble, to give me the courage to remain vulnerable before Him and others. It's the only way I can stay grounded, and it's something I certainly can't manage on my own.
My journey toward humility began at a church camp when I was twelve-years-old. After becoming a Christian there, I spent the next ten years committed to living for God. But it wasn't until college when a pastor challenged me to allow Jesus to take full control of my life that things really started to ramp up. Since then, I've come to see that God is not some vague idea or fairytale. He's living, breathing, and active in the world. I've given Him full access to my heart and soul 24/7, and He has never let me down.
To me, humility means realizing that God is God, and I am not. It's not about putting myself down; it's about lifting others up, giving credit where credit is due. Playing on this team is a tremendous privilege. It's great when people recognize our achievements. But I never let myself forget that God is the one who got me here, and He did it for His glory, not mine.
