Jason Kreis

Picture yourself with Jason Kreis' life. You're a stellar soccer player with the Dallas Burn, sitting at the top of the newborn Major League Soccer division with an MVP award tucked under your arm. You've just signed a million dollar contract that makes you one of the richest guys in the league. You married a fabulous woman and she gave birth to an amazing baby boy who makes you proud every day of your life.

It would be easy to be cocky. You might see a little arrogance slipping in when you're out on the field. You may start boasting of your inflated ego.

That's exactly what Jason is striving to avoid. "I'm human and sometimes those things pop into my mind for a few seconds," he says, "but I immediately tell myself that I have to be humble."

Jason didn't get to where he is by riding a shooting star. He comes from a family of hard workers, and he's determined to represent their name well. His effort doesn't escape the eye of his coaches. "Jason's one of those rare people who's always striving for more, no matter what he already has," says Dallas Burn coach Dave Dir. "He's very driven," confirms Mark Santel, Jason's teammate. "He puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform."

Jason's hard work has paid off. He's on fire out on the field, becoming the first player in league history to score 15 goals and 15 assists in the same season. He went on to take the big prize as the leagues' most valuable player.

Despite all that, Jason remains modest. "I'm not the best player in this league, and I'll never have the most speed or skill. I try to remember that soccer is not a life-and-death situation…it's just a game."

Jason gives God the credit for his humble attitude. "There's days where I'm acting a bit too proud or maybe I'm flying off the handle…those days remind me that I need to spend time with God. When I start my day by reading my Bible and praying, I stay humble." He adds, "I'm just Jason Kreis, someone who trusts the Lord and has to work for everything I get.
